The Nile Special University Football League (NSUFL) match on Friday, 14 October 2016 between rival Universities, Makerere and Kyambogo witnessed Kyambogo bow out of the NSUFL. The match that was played at the Luzira prisons grounds ended in a goalless draw after a heated contest between the two sides.
This was a return leg match of the 2016 NSUFL quarter final. During the first leg on 21st September 2016 Makerere humbled Kyambogo 2-0 at the same grounds after Joshua Lubwama’s double gave the Kikoni boys a 2-0 victory. With a 0-0 Friday result Makerere now progress to the semi-finals of the NSUFL after 2-0 goal average victory. Makerere University joins Uganda Martyrs University, Nkozi in the semi-final slot.
The match was played behind closed doors due to the violent nature of these teams’ fans. Also, as per football rules, each team is to host one of the legs, but here it was a different case as all the legs were played on the same grounds because the two institutions are not in good terms as witnessed by previous clashes that left many of the fans wounded.
Meanwhile, Kampala University (KU) will host Busitema University on Wednesday, 19 October 2016 at Villa Park while Nkumba University will host Gulu University on Thursday, 20 October 2016 in Entebbe.
The first leg of the league semi-finals will be played on 26 and 27 October 2016. The second leg will be played on the 2 and 3 November 2016. The Finals and Third place will be played on Saturday, 19 November 2016 at Nelson Mandela National Stadium, Nambole.
