Leicester City witnessed there fourth away loss this season as they were demolished by Chelsea FC 3-0 on Saturday, 15 October 2016 at Stamford Bridge. It was the first match of the English premier League match day eight and it was a lunch time kick off (2; 30 East African Time). To a man, Ranieri’s side was out played right from the onset and no doubt they succumbed to such a terrible loss.
Hell broke loose for the Foxes at the 7th minute after an unmarked Diego Costa gave the Blues a lead after converting a nice corner at the back of the net. This was Costa’s 7th EPL goal for this season. Eden Hazard gave the Foxes a bloody nose when he doubled the hosts’ lead at the 33rd minute after totally tearing apart Leicester’s defence hence leaving Leicester’s goal keeper exposed, thanks to Matic’s through pass.. Chelsea took a 2-0 half time lead before the break hence giving Conte’s side an upper hand in the game.
After the break, Claudio Ranieri’s side started displaying classy football as Musa gave Caesar Azpilicuetta hard time is he was even bound to score. The pressure from Leicester witnessed David Luiz almost put a ball at the back of his own net, thanks the goal post that denied the ball to give Leicester an un worked for goal.
Leicester’s second half dominance did not last for long as former Foxes defensive mid fielder N’Golo Kante took control the mid field. Kante silenced his former side’s midfield with the likes of Danny DrinkWater losing their tempo for the game. It was no doubt that Kante’s effort ensured that the Blues’ back four had little work to do with the likes of Jamie Vardy losing the ball to Kante before approaching Cahill or Luiz. Kante was even about to strike his former side’s net at the 73rd minute when he thumped a very hard ball, thanks to Wesley Morgan who used his knee to clear off the ball for a corner kick.
Victor Moses hammered the last nail on Leicester’s coffin at the 80th minute after displaying a classy performance. Moses passed the ball to Chalobah and continued running past Leicester’s defence only to meet his ball and finding a helpless goal keeper who could not do much to stop the winger from notching. This goal proved that Chelsea have taken three points home and although Leicester were to score, it would only be a consolation. Following Moses’ fast pace and dribbling abilities, Willian’s absence was hardly felt.
Chelsea now have two successive clean sheets despite swallowing a lot of goals before match day seven. Skipper, John Terry and winger Willian were not available for Chelsea for fitness reasons and a compassionate leave respectively. Chelsea now stand at position 5 of the EPL table with 16 points while Leicester at position 13 with 8 points.
