The Azam Uganda Premier League (AUPL) match between league debutants, Onduparaka FC and Police FC on Saturday, 24th September 2016 at the Green Light stadium in Arua Municipality witnessed the true colours of the caterpillars (Onduparaka FC) especially at their home ground. This game was on match day six of the AUPL. The match that was attended by an average of 1,000 people which were from different parts of the country ended 2-1 in favour of the Caterpillars.
As usual, any game involving Onduparaka is always heated up on the onset and this one was not exceptional. On the 6th minute of the first half of the game, Police notched through Ocen Ben hence giving the visitors an early lead. However this was not enough to make Police FC take the three points home after the Caterpillars levelled through Kabon Living just at the 22nd minute before the break. At the 27th minute, the host put another one at the back of the net and this time round, it was the captain himself, Mohammed Shaban that gave the Arua based side a lead. The first half between these two ended 2-1 in favour of Onduparaka and so was the second half.
What attracted the attention of the local soccer fans was the presence of local musician and BET Award winner, Eddy Kenzo at the Green Light stadium. Eddy Kenzo first showed up at Betway just around the Green Light stadium and it took locals there less than a minute to recognise him. His presence excited the fans and the management of Onduparaka FC. However it is not clear which of the two clubs (Onduparaka and Police) Kenzo was siding with but what I am sure is that Kenzo was interested to see with his own eyes the class of football the Caterpillars can display especially at the Green Light as it is always reported by the media.
The performance of Onduparaka is no longer a surprise to me and other local soccer pundits like David Isabirye. In fact most local soccer fans now have a tendency of putting their bet on Onduparaka and in the end they are never disappointed.
In other results of the AUPL match day six; Vipers 0-1 Express, Bul 1-3 KCCA, Lweza 2-1 JMC Hippos, Soana 0-0 Bright Stars, The Saints 1-0 Jinja SSS.
