United thrashed at Vicarage Road as Chelsea drops points at home.

The English Premier League (EPL) match day 5 witnessed drama as the big names in the league produced shocking performances. The game between Watford and Manchester United at Vicarage road on Sunday, 18th September 2016 was a shocker to many football pundits like Stuart James after Watford beat United 3-1. United’s loss at the Vicarage was there third in a row after dropping points at home during a derby match with Man City on 10th September 2016 and losing 1-0 against Feyenoord on 15th September 2016 during their first game of the Thursday night football (Europa League). The loss at the Vicarage implies that United are now six points behind Guardiola’s side just after 5 EPL matches.

Etienne Capoue was the first to hit the back of the net hence giving the home side a 1-0 lead. Mourinho was however unhappy with this goal claiming that Anthony Martial was fouled by Miguel Bristos which culminated into Etienne scoring. Marcus Rashford later equalised for the red devils in the second half but Juan Camilo Zuniga hit Watford’s second for the day just after 53 seconds he left the bench for the pitch hence making the home side lead again. More plight was piled on Mourinho’s side as Troy Deeney converted an injury time penalty to give the Vicarage Road based team a 3-1 lead and United’s third successive defeat in a row.

On giving his post-match results after their third successive loss, Mourinho claimed that some of his players are unable to cope up with the pressure of playing for Manchester United especially the defenders. He also blamed the referees for their three losses pointing the black spots in all the games. At the Vicarage, Mourinho was not delighted with Watford’s first goal on grounds that Anthony Martial was fouled and events that unfolded a few seconds after the incident made the home side to strike the back of the net. On Feyenoord’s loss, Mourinho claimed that the goal for the hosts was scored at an offside position. While talking about his first loss against City at Old Trafford, Mourinho claimed that City’s goal keeper Claudio Bravo fouled Rooney at the 55th minute but the match officials took no action.

There was another clash at Stamford Bridge on Friday, 15th September 2016 between Chelsea and Liverpool. Liverpool inflicted on Antonio Conte his first loss in the EPL as Chelsea manager after beating his side 2-1. Liverpool took a first half 2-0 lead through Lovren (17) and Henderson (36). Later on during the second halt Diego Costa pulled one for Chelsea at the 61st minute but this was not enough for them as the game ended 1-2 marking their first loss of this season.

In other EPL match day 5 results; Everton 3-1 Middlesbrough, Southampton 1-0 Swansea, Crystal Palace 4-1 Stoke City, Tottenham 1-0 Sunderland, Man City 4-0 Bournemouth, Arsenal 4-1 Hull, Leicester 3-0 Burnley and West Ham 2-4 West Brom.
